About Ann
In 2009 Ann Eady celebrated her 25th Wedding Anniversary by visiting Gambia, the smallest country on mainland Africa. During her stay she met a number of locals and got the chance to see how they lived. This experience made a huge impression on Ann and before she left she promised to raise money to help.
At the hotel where Ann and her husband Kevan stayed, there was a young man that worked in the gardens, his name was Ratty. Ratty did not receive a wage for his work at the hotel, but received meals throughout the day instead. Ann described Ratty as her adopted son.
Through her friendship with Ratty, Ann was able to meet Ratty’s family and also visit the school which Ratty attended. The school was approximately 2 hours away from their hotel in a small town called Faraba Banta. Ann was shocked by the condition of the school and even more so when she heard that the water supply was broken. Ann spoke to the headmaster and was able to donate the money needed to fix the water supply, she also promised that when she returned home she would send more money to help at the school.
Since returning home Ann has raised over £2000 for the school and to help the people she met in Gambia. She continues to raise money through friends and family and is in regular contact with her adopted family in Gambia.
